"Inking and Colouring " with Adobe Illustrator < 1 2 3 >
"Inkbrushed" lines have direction.
They add weight, depth and subtle perspective to the drawing
Tapering ink lines are drawn as shapes with the Pen tool. Colour set to black. Stroke set to "Off". The number of anchor points should be kept to the minimum. 3 or 4 per shape at most. Doing this will keep the shapes nice and smooth and keep the file size down.

The rough is scanned as a JPG and imported into Illustrator.

The aim now is to recreate classic comic book style lines. The kind that were traditionally done by drawing with a brush.

Brushed lines tend to start off thick and taper to a point.

"Inkbrushed" lines have direction they add weight, depth and subtle perspective to the drawing. This gives the drawing an appealing organic/dynamic feel.

Layer 1 contains the rough and is locked. This is to stop it being accidentally selected and moved about.

Layer 3, the topmost layer contains the ink lines.

Layer 2 is created last and will be sandwiched between the rough drawing and the ink lines. Layer 2 will contain the colour and shading.
