Animated Cartoon characters - Creating a full turnaround model sheet

Client: Locomedia, www.locomedia.com U.S.software development and telecommunications company.

Clients Brief: Develop a character (Gaby). For use in promoting clients range of products.

The images above illustrate some of the stages in the design of a cartoon character that will be animated. Many sketches are required to capture the exact look that the client had in mind. Different atttudes, clothing and hair styles were explored before the design was finalised. Once all these aspects were nailed down and approved, a full character "Turnaround" was created.

The Turnaround, as the name implies, shows the character rotated through 360 degrees. This is the foundation of what is called the "Model Sheet". The "Model Sheet" is a blueprint of the character design that an animator can take as as his guide when redrawing the character.
